The beginner's guide to getting paid for your data
If you’ve decided you’re open to sharing some of your data in exchange for payment, here’s exactly what to expect, step by step.
Step 1: Sign up
Head to webuydata.io and create an account. This takes a couple of minutes and asks for basic information — just enough for us to verify you’re a real person and pay you.
Currently, we are only accepting data contributors who are 18+ and based in the US.
Step 2: See what’s being requested
Once you’re signed up, you’ll see the types of data currently being requested — for example, AI chat exports from a specific platform, or other consumer app data. Each request explains:
- What’s being asked for
- How it’ll be anonymised or handled
- What you’ll be paid for it
You’re never obligated to fulfil a request you’re not comfortable with.
Step 3: Choose what to share
If a request looks good to you, you select and submit the relevant data. Depending on the request, this might mean syncing your conversation history via our Chrome extension, uploading it, or another defined, specific action. We never ask for account details or passwords — and you should never share these, with us or anyone else for that matter.
Step 4: Get paid
Once your submission is reviewed and accepted, you’re compensated. We typically pay via Amazon gift card within one business day of submission acceptance.
What you’re not signing up for
To be clear about what this isn’t:
- You’re not handing over your account passwords
- You’re not agreeing to ongoing monitoring of your device or activity
- You’re not locked into anything — you can stop at any time
A few tips for first-time contributors
- Read each request before submitting. They vary, and it’s worth knowing exactly what’s involved each time.
- Start small. Try one request first to see how the process feels before committing to more.
- Keep your account details accurate. This avoids delays when it comes to getting paid.
That’s genuinely it
There’s no catch beyond what’s written above. It’s a straightforward exchange: you choose to share something you were already creating, and you get paid fairly for it.
